REVIEW: Atena Cafe, Wythenshawe – Authentic Greek & Cypriot Cuisine

                          Atena café, Wythenshaw Market, Manchester

One Cypriot Creamy Chicken with Rice to take-away

I love Greek food. I love it almost as much as I love Italian food so when a guy I work with recommended a great little Greek food stand in Wythenshawe market I had to check it out. Being half Greek himself, my friend knows his Greek food so I trust his judgement. If he says it’s good then it’s worth a try.

Atena cafe is tucked at the back of Wythenshawe indoor food market. It serves Greek and Cypriot cuisine at reasonable prices for the hungry lunch crowd. They serve everything from Greek-style paninis, kebabs, to delicious stews as well as jacket potatoes for the less adventurous.

My favourites include their Cypriot Creamy Chicken (pictured above) which comes with either rice or chips (I’d recommend the rice), the Beef Stifado and the Soutzoukakia. More recently I’ve been opting for the slightly healthier options of their Greek, Halloumi and Falafel salads. All come with option of extra salad toppings. I’d recommend the Veggie Delight box, one of their most popular dishes. This consists of a mixture of falafel, halloumi and feta cheese with salad servings of your choice all topped with a tsaziki dressing, though there are others available, such as hummous.

So if you’re in Wythenshawe and looking for somewhere tasty to eat for lunch then head over to Atena’s and enjoy their freshly cooked food.

Atena also do event catering on request and will deliver order over £10 within a 2 mile distance. They’re open Monday-Saturday 9:00-17:00 and Wednesday 9:00-13:00. Tel: 07523460743.
